What is meant by the term “audio visual”? In a nutshell, it is the use of both sight and sound, typically in the form of slides or video and recorded speech or music.
This is the essence of what I do every day to help people use audio visual in business, church or educational applications. One area that will never cease is the need to rent a system for a day. No matter what the state of the economy, people want to use audio visual for selling a product or for entertainment. The most common uses are the types of events that are a part of people’s lives. Weddings and memorial services need microphones and a sound system. Celebrations of all kinds need a sound system for attendees to enjoy music. Video projectors and screens are commonly rented to add a visual element to all of these types of events. The more advanced requests may be Video Conferencing, Live Streaming or recording.
This post is to visually highlight a few daily rental events we did in 2015 such as:
Have you ever stayed at one of the hotels in the Oxford Hotel Group? If not, I encourage you to enjoy one of their locations in Oregon, Washington, Idaho or California. If yes, then you have most likely experienced their commitment to hospitality in all areas – lodging, dining, and also, audio visual surroundings.
This 2015 Project Highlight was my professional dream come true. In 1994, I started in the Hotel Industry taping down cords for audio visual events in a Ritz Carlton. Fast forward a couple decades — I had the opportunity to work beside the Oxford Hotel Group as they built a hotel from the ground up in Bellingham, Washington. Personally and professionally, I felt a bit spoiled working on this project since they owned their own Cessna (which delivered me to the site within forty-five minutes from Bend!).
Restaurant consumers were recently asked, “How do you feel about restaurant noise?” Of the 1,232 responses, nearly 80% said, “Loathe it.” (About 14% said they don’t notice noise, and about 7% love it.) Echoing numerous restaurant reviewers around the country, one participant commented, “The most consistent complaint I hear from friends and readers has to do with noisy restaurants.” It’s a common cry, one that has reached the pinnacle of customer dissatisfaction in the Zagat Dining Trends Survey. Diners around the country now rank noise in restaurants as their #1 complaint.
Today’s Project Highlight from 2015 is Jackson’s Corner Eastside location. I was asked to provide a proposal of cost to help this popular but noisy restaurant. “The customers are up and leaving, complaining they can’t carry on a conversation” described Palmer Noble, a Jackson’s Corner Manager. I was one of two people they asked to help them but I was chosen for one primary reason, which I am going to reveal at the end of the post. Keep reading…
Tech centers are all the Rave! “Over the past decade, it just got to the point where it became cool to start a company here (Bend),” says Jim Boeddeker, Executive Director of Founderspad. Hence, I introduce to you the 1001 Tech Center!
The 1001 Tech Center Building was the first of three tech center projects I have completed this year and the opportunities continue at comparable centers through word-of-mouth referrals. This is not your typical customer wanting a projector and screen. Every room is custom created and the resident interior designer is required to sign off on every step. No wall is the same as the next.
It was March 29, 2015 and Bear Creek Elementary School needed a Spring Cleaning of their audio system. When we arrived, everything was coated with dust and was barely functional. We serviced and cleaned the existing equipment, replaced the non-functioning pieces, added sound coverage in the gym, realigned older speakers and did extensive cable management. It’s not always about installing new gear. It’s important to invest time to clean up what you have and I guarantee your AV equipment will last many more years.
Audio Visual Bend loves the Bend Parks and Recreation District! This is one of our long standing customers. They had been wanting to do an upgrade to high definition video for some time but could not take the leap all at once, so they did so in stages. The first step was to bring in a brighter projector as they found the natural sun light was competing with the projected image. They liked the room bright but they needed the projected image clear enough to be seen by the audience. We installed a high definition ultra-bright Hitachi and a series projector and subsequently, solved their problem. A year later, they indicated a desire to upgrade all of the cabling so that all of their presentations were up-to-date and using only the best in content delivery over High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI).

Projector Companies Come and Go… but we are always here – [Post by Tony Sprando, AV Design Specialist]
My first projector was a Nec Data/Video projector – it came in a large box and weighed a ton. I remember how cool I thought it was, I was working for an event and staging company and they purchased one for my territory.
It was the first model out which actually had a computer connection right on the unit. Soon after that, several manufacturers started competing in the same market (Sanyo, Panasonic, Jvc, Sony, Epson, Canon, Mitsubishi, etc…)
It’s been 20 years and now some of these companies have left the market or sold out to the competition. It’s sad to see such strong players move on but like anything hi-tech that can be made cheaper by someone else or market saturation it is inevitable.
But not all is lost!
