Most people avoid video conference calls primarily because they are uncomfortable with the equipment and unfamiliar with the setting. Here are some tips and tricks to help you relax… and not “play dead.”

Be prepared. Secure quality equipment from Audio Visual Bend and practice with it in advance to familiarize yourself with the set-up. Carefully check variables like lighting, seating arrangements, and mic position.

Know video conference etiquette. Begin and end on time. Introduce all of your participants. Communicate the meeting agenda and objectives. Speak clearly and loudly. Make eye contact with the camera and with other participants in your room. Use names to direct questions to specific people. Don’t speak over people or interrupt. Don’t sit too close to the camera. Avoid making too much background noise or unnecessary motion. Try to stay the entire meeting.

Be professional. Dress appropriately for the meeting. Maintain good posture. Silence your phones and do not use them during the meeting.
